This course combines conceptual and theoretical approaches to abstract art in conjunction with practical making. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists, it will cover approaches to abstract art through exploring materials, methods and techniques for creating imagery. We will delve into both traditional and more contemporary understandings of abstraction through open discussion and making. Optional termly projects will be provided and you will be supported through development of your own ideas.

Have fun and learn drawing techniques exploring line, tone, form, and the versatility of a range of materials including charcoal, pencils, ink & pastels. Learn about artists and their process, still life, portraits and landscapes. You will learn about perspective, composition and colour while creating a fabulous sketchbook. On this course, you will be introduced to lots of fun and accessible ways to use drawing, painting and mixed media to create a diverse range of imagery. You’ll explore a diverse range of media including watercolour , paper collage, pastels, charcoal, pencil and inks. Each week, you explore the work of established artists as inspiration. If you want to learn to draw and improve your drawing skills, then this is the course for you. It will give you an opportunity to learn a range of techniques to develop your drawing skills whilst working in a supportive, encouraging learning environment. Sessions will include drawing perspective, observational still life and landscapes using a range of drawing materials and media. There is also an opportunity to draw in a museum setting.
