This course is suitable for beginners and improvers. Each 5-week course can be added together to form a year's course as no two terms are alike.

On this course, you will be introduced to lots of fun and accessible ways to use drawing, painting and mixed media to create a diverse range of imagery. You’ll explore a diverse range of media including watercolour , paper collage, pastels, charcoal, pencil and inks.
Each week, you explore the work of established artists as inspiration. If you’re feeling rusty or not done art since school, this course offers you a chance to build confidence in a supportive environment. Tutor Cleo Harrington MA (RCA)

This short landscape painting course will introduce beginners to the basics of landscape technique and allow time to develop the practical elements of creating a painting. For those with some previous experience, it will provide an opportunity to fully grasp the basics as well as have more time to explore a personal project. By the end of the session, you will be able to develop paintings from observation, through abstraction or from imagination. This course is suitable for beginners and experinced learners who wish to learn the basic skills for landscape drawing and painting including measuring, perspective and drawing techniques. Move on to experiment with ink, collage and acrylic paint to develop wonderful, colourful paintings and develop personal projects. You can work from the view from the window, images of landscape, or bring an A4 picture of a special place. With artist and lecturer Alison Kusner

You will be able to develop your skills by engaging with suitable projects determined by your existing level of experience in discussion with the tutor. Teaching is both as a whole class and an individual, one-to-one basis using demonstrations, discussion, examples, samples, handouts and other technical support material where appropriate. You will be able to negotiate individual learning goals together with the tutor. During the first session, the tutor will check your experience to date and personal goals for the course, and if it is considered that it is not the right one, you will be advised on a more suitable course. You will be working at your own pace and be given verbal feedback on your progress.

There is no exam or formal assessment for this course. However, you will complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will outline the learning objectives for the course. You will also be invited to set your own goals. You will receive feedback against the achievement of these outcomes during the course from your tutor, and in written form at the end of the course.However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject in the Creative Arts department. For Art and Design courses, once you have developed a portfolio of work, you could consider applying to the Accreditted courses including L1, L2 Fashion or Illustration, or L3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design as a pathway into higher education.
